About
School of Football
Wallace High School in Stirling is one of sixteen Schools of Football around the country - part of the Scottish FA's mission to encourage more young people to play the game, more often.
The Scottish FA Schools of Football are about more than just playing ability, they aim to mould better citizens and develop social and academic abilities through the vehicle of football.
As part of the programme pupils follow an enhanced timetable which includes a period of football activity every day.
Football is used as a tool to motivate the pupils, enhance their social skills such as communication, listening and behaviour with the programme’s success being evaluated through factors such as school attendance and academic improvement. The pupils are coached by Scottish FA Player and Coach Development Officer Ian Ross.
Due to the fact that the players are involved in daily sessions for the first 2 years of their school life, they must possess a reasonable playing ability to cope with these demands however their selection is based on much more. Their social circumstances, academic performance and attendance are all important indicators in deciding whether or not they are appropriate for the programme. Scottish FA coaches lead the selection and football aspects, but the programme is very much a partnership with local authority education departments, school teachers, active schools co-ordinators and football development officers.
Throughout the programme, players have the opportunity to be identified by senior clubs involved in the Scottish FA Youth Initiative programme.
The Scottish FA Schools of Football are supported by the Scottish Governments CashBack for Communities initiative which puts criminals ill-gotten gains to a good use with the Scottish FA being one of four national CashBack sports partners of the Scottish Government.

News
The School of Football is still a huge success within Wallace High School, after initially being led by Ian Ross who laid the great foundations, with the help of Mrs Horsburgh, Head Teacher, and all her staff.
I have recently taken over from Ian Ross and have been warmly welcomed by all the staff at Wallace High. It’s a great pleasure to step foot into the doors every day, especially when it comes to the School of Football, but more importantly seeing the smiles on the children`s faces as they are raring to go for their sessions.
Their attendance, attitude and respect towards myself and the programme has been outstanding and they are a credit to their school and families but more importantly themselves. They are a pleasure to coach and work with and this makes it so rewarding for myself and my time spent at Wallace High.
I have recently visited all the Primary Schools within the catchment area of Wallace High, giving them a taster session for the next intake to the School of Football and it`s been great fun, delivering a small presentation detailing what the programme consists of and a little coaching session for all the Primary 7`s, as I expected the children were great and also full of energy as you can well imagine.
Abbi who is in the current group say`s “It`s great fun and I feel really happy in the programme and it sets me up for the rest of my day”.
Nathan also enjoys it “Its fun and I am full of confidence before and after my session`s”.
The current group have asked me to extend it from their current 4 session`s a week to 5 and a I think that speaks volumes.
I would again like to thank Mrs Horsburgh, all her staff and pupils for making me feel so welcome within Wallace High and for their continued support along with Cash Back and Active Stirling.
Kindest regards
Iain Jenkins (Coach)
