burns supper, end of term roundup, new term start, battle of the bands
BURNS SUPPER The school's Burns Supper will be held on Wednesday 27th January at 7pm in the school. This event is always run entirely by senior pupils and will include the traditional meal, speeches, music, song, poetry and a ceilidh. Tickets are still available through the school office to parents and friends of the school and cost £5 or £3 children and concessions.
END OF TERM ROUNDUP As the end of term approached, S3 Spanish language Intermediate 1 classes decided to learn more about how to order Spanish food . They visited the Mediterranea restaurant in Viewfield Place and sampled a lunchtime feast consisted of bread and olives, houmus, chorizo, albondigas (meatballs) and chicken. There was very little left over and everyone enjoyed their new dining experience! The second edition of the new school magazine Flourish also appeared and seems to have been very well received by pupils and staff. Meanwhile, once the term had actually ended, school staff stayed on for the afternoon to enjoy a buffet, a fun quiz compered by departing Geography teacher David Grinly, and to wish Maths teacher Leah Mann best wishes for her wedding. NEW TERM START Like everywhere else, Wallace re-opened in snow and severe cold weather. In spite of this the school was warm, the access road and car park were gritted and almost all pupils and staff made it in to get the term off to a good start. Now, after just one week back, S4 pupils have gone off on study leave in order to sit their prelim exams. BATTLE OF THE BANDS Last Thursday evening the school held its annual Battle of the Bands contest for Wallace pupils. Seven bands took part and the event was won by the Occupationists (pictured above) - a soft rock trio consisting of S5 pupils Konnar Anderson and Ben McFarlane and Pablo Lafuente from S2. They will now go forward to represent Wallace in the local area Battle of the Bands contest. Meanwhile Alfonso Sanchez Cruz won the award for best moves on stage with a duckwalk reminiscent of Chuck Berry, and the 'most original' award went to the Tubes, who played (very appropriately) didgeridoos !
