What is Assessment for Learning AiFL seeks to develop a streamlined and coherent system of assessment for Scottish schools that will support learning. It will ensure that parents, teachers and other professionals have the feedback that they need on pupils' learning and development needs.
The Working Group In 2007/2008 an Assessment is For Learning working group was established within the school. The aim of the group was not only to develop AiFL techniques and to introduce these across the school but also to develop an AiFL policy.
Our strengths and successes to date
- The AiFL group is the first group in school to be set up and run by a non-promoted member of staff.
- It was the largest group in the school (07/08) with 18 members of staff from across almost all departments in school.
- The group carried out in-service training, delivered workshops, carried out whole school audits and implemented AiFL techniques across many departments.
- The work has impacted on teaching, learning and assessment within the school.
- We have developed: Feedback, Sharing Learning Intentions and Marking Less To Achieve More.
Current Developments The group have now formed three subgroups, each one working towards developing a topic within the AiFL toolkit. Each group presented their work at the in service day on February 17th. The current topics being developed are High Quality Interactions, Reflection and Self and Peer Assessment.
