Overview
No matter in what area of business you may seek employment, either before or after further studies at university or college, the range of subjects taught in the department will ensure you have the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding. A hands-on investigative approach will develop decision making, enquiry and communication skills and, indeed, we hope to sow the seeds which may result in some pupils starting their own business. Pupils will gain experience of modern technology and software as used in commerce and industry today.
Subjects taught are:
S1:
First year pupils follow an integrated ICT course delivered by both Computing and Business Education departments. All pupils follow a course using computer packages such as Word Processor, Spreadsheet, Graphics and Database. ICT skills learned at Primary school are further developed and enhanced.
S2:
General Business Education course with elements of Administration and Business Management.
S3/4:
Standard Grade Business Management. The course approach is 'hands-on' and 'investigative' using up-to-date activities and case studies to ensure the course is educational and fun. The course aims to develop enterprise and innovation. A practical abilities decision-making paper based on an 'Enterprise' CD-ROM issued by the SQA involves pupils in researching and making decisions about a typical small business.
S5/S6:
Intermediate 2 and Higher Business Management. Real businesses are investigated and strategies developed.
