Computing

Overview

The increased use of computers at work, home and for leisure has made an awareness and knowledge of computers and their uses increasingly important for all.

The scheme of work for all years may be downloaded here.

Computing courses at Wallace High School are offered as follows:

S1:

First year pupils follow an integrated ICT course delivered by both Computing and Business Education departments. All pupils follow a course using computer packages such as Word Processor, Spreadsheet, Graphics and Database. ICT skills learned at Primary school are further developed and enhanced

S2

Second year pupils follow a course that covers Multimedia Applications. The course covers both the hardware and software involved in producing a multimedia application and much of the time is spent working with multimedia elements on the computers.

S3/4:

Pupils opting to do Computing in S3 and S4 can do the Standard Grade Computing course or the Access 3 Computing Studies course. Pupils will be advised which of these course would be most suitable for them, based on their performance in S2. Whichever course is followed will be undertaken over the two years of S3 and S4.

S5/6:

Pupils in S5 and S6 have the choice to study Intermediate 2, Higher or Advanced Higher Computing. Each of these courses would be undertaken over a one year period allowing pupils to do one course in S5 possibly followed by another in S6. We are now also offering a National Progression Award (NPA) in Digital Media Editing for a number of our senior pupils.

These courses allow pupils flexibility in their learning and appropriate progression from S1 to S6.

All ICT classrooms in Wallace High School are equipped with 20 flat screen PCs, one colour laser printer, flatbed scanners and a Promethean interactive white board.
