Overview
In this growing subject, pupils take part in a variety of activities reflected by the facilities available, staff expertise and needs of the pupils. The experiences gained by pupils in PE develop them physically, socially and emotionally.
In first and second year pupils have 2 periods a week and participate in the following activities: football, rugby, badminton, basketball, volleyball, fitness, swimming, athletics and Scottish and creative dance.
In third year pupils can opt to take Standard Grade which runs over two years and the pupils are assessed on their practical performance (50%), Knowledge and Understanding (25%) and their Evaluation Skills (25%). Core PE continues 2 periods a week during S3 and S4 for all pupils and the emphasis is on participation and enjoyment.
In S5/6 there are 4 courses:
Int2: 50% of the overall mark is assessed on practical performance in volleyball, swimming and badminton, or swimming, badminton and football, with the best two marks out of three activities counting. Analysis and Development of Performance Unit constitutes the remaining 50%.
Higher: 40% of the overall mark is assessed on performance in volleyball, swimming and badminton or swimming, badminton and football and 60% is assessed in the Analysis of Performance exam;
